LOTL at the ESC German Final (16-02-2024)
Barbara: I’m happy to look back on last year now, when we actually all agreed that we had chosen the right ones, LORD OF THE LOST; they went to Liverpool for us, and even if it wasn’t enough to win first place, I think they had a lot of fun.
Narrator: With “Blood & Glitter” the Hamburg band Lord of the Lost clearly prevailed against 7 competitors in 2023. The metal band led by Chris Harms won 40% of the public vote and traveled to the UK for Germany—royal handshakes included. But then, the Lords came last at the ESC in Liverpool. But their career has really taken off since then: the musicians, who have already toured the world with Iron Maiden, are on a major anniversary tour this summer. 15 years of glitter!
Barbara: And today they’re here with us on stage: Lord of the Lost!
Chris: Moin, Moin! (Northern German for: “hello”)
Barbara: Just quickly—
Chris: Moin, Babsi!
Barbara: When I switched over again to you last year, when the whole thing was done, it was shortly before the party, you said, “OK, we came in last, but now we’re going on tour with Iron Maiden, and we’re totally happy now”—that means that this was actually great fun for you, right?
Chris: It was great fun, we would do it again anytime, even if we knew we’d come last—
Barbara: Yeah.
Chris: —simply because it was incredibly great fun.
Barbara: It’s good to know!
Chris: And I would like to say, if tonight ends in a draw—we’ll just go again!
Barbara: Yes! Would you have a song at hand? Would you have a good song, with which you would spontaneously participate?
Pi: Absolutely, but we can’t reveal that just yet.
Barbara: No, of course not. If one has been at the ESC, I think, one steps up their performance, simply because you play on this stage and do rehearsals for two weeks, I think, you get to a higher level—did that also help you in your career? I think you were really high up in the charts all the time then, right?
Pi: Yes—again. We were very lucky—I’d like to say—to be number 1 at the beginning of the year last year with one album, and this album was number 2 again after Eurovision.
Chris: Right after the ESC, yes.
Barbara: Yes.
Pi: That was awesome.
Barbara: So, it was also a total career booster.
Chris: The thing is, last or not, we did not lose anything because of the ESC, but won everything—so much love and so many great people, and that’s why—
Barbara: That’s exactly it!
Chris: This year we will do a concert in Malmö, the evening before the ESC. And we want to continue doing this, each year we will perform in the city where the final of the ESC takes place, the evening before. Simply to remain a part of the community.
Barbara: Yes! That’s a very important and good thing, and there’s a real chance that I might also drop by, as I, of course, will also be present in Malmö on May 11th, by the way, at the big ESC final.
Pi: Front row? I want to see you in the front row.
Barbara: Front row. Oh my god.
Pi: Yes, please.
Barbara: And I tell you, I would even have the right outfit
Chris: I know.
Barbara: I have the right outfit for ANY event in my basement, as we just heard before.
Chris: You can also come on tour with us, we’ll be going on the “15 Years of Lord of the Lost Tour” in March and April… I don’t know, maybe?
Barbara: I have virtually no plans for March and April yet.
Chris: Do you have time, at 3 p.m., in March and April?
Barbara: Yeah!
Chris: Deal!
Barbara: We’ll do that!
Chris: Very good.
